Stadler delivers the complete electric FLIRT fleet for the Aosta Valley Region

posted on 7th Oct 2026 10:46

On 6 October 2026, the six new FLIRT EMUs for the Aosta Valley have been unveiled at Turin Porta Nuova station. Manufactured in Siedlce, these vibrant red trains will run through the heart of the Italian Alps, joining the bimodal FLIRT fleet already serving the Aosta Valley. In 2015, the region ordered five bimodal FLIRTs, operating on the Turin - Aosta route for seven years and quickly becoming a recognizable symbol of the region.

The bimodal units are now being joined by six 160 km/h four-car EMUs. They retain the distinctive design of the existing fleet while offering greater capacity and enhanced passenger comfort. Thanks to the electrification of the entire Turin - Aosta line and the introduction of the new trains, more than 500,000 litres of diesel will be saved each year, equivalent to filling the fuel tanks of around 10,000 cars.

All six new trains were designed and built in just over two years, and are equipped with the ETCS OBU. The modern fleet offers residents and tourists a comfortable, safe, and environmentally friendly travel experience through one of Northern Italy’s most beautiful regions. Each unit offers a total of 236 eco-leather seats, and features modern, air-conditioned interiors, along with dedicated areas for bicycles and ski equipment. Each vehicle carries the “LOVE VDA” heart logo, reflecting the unique landscape, identity and tourist appeal of the Aosta Valley.

The new FLIRTs are being introduced into service on the regional network in stages in accordance with the operating procedures defined in the operating contract and depending on the progress of electrification work on the Ivrea - Aosta line.

Stadler will provide maintenance services for the new fleet for five years in close cooperation with Trenitalia. A dedicated team of specialists along with the required spare parts and materials, will ensure reliable operation.
