TMH renewed the Class EMKA2 locomotive certification

On 18 December 2025, FS RZhT (the Federal Register of Railway Certification) renewed the certificate of compliance with the TR TS 001/2011 regulations for the Class EMKA2. The decision was made based on the results of testing the EMKA2-003, manufactured at NEVZ.

The 3 kV DC locomotive batteries does not require a special charging infrastructure. The locomotive  is able it to pull a train weighing up to 2,000 tons over a distance of up to 14 km in a battery mode. The locomotive without a train can run up to 100 km on battery power.

In June 2019, an agreement was signed between TMH, RZD and Rusnano to develop environmentally friendly shunting locomotives with hybrid drive. The locomotive design was developed by TMH-Engineering.
