České dráhy invited a public contract for modernization of the Class 754 locomotives, which will be part of ČD's offer to ensure transport on non-electrified lines until the introduction of electric operation.

Jiří Ješeta, member of the board of directors and deputy general director of ČD and for passenger transport, says: "In recent years, we have conducted market research focused on the renewal of our Class 754 locomotives, which are used to haul express and regional trains on some non-electrified lines. After obtaining information from the market in the area of new diesel-electric or dual locomotives and after examining the possible modernization of existing machines, we have selected the modernization as the most advantageous solution."

The subject of the tender is the conclusion of a framework agreement for the modernization of up to 30 machines, with a guaranteed purchase of at least 10 locomotives. During the modernization, all of them will be equipped with the ETCS OBU. The estimated worth of the contract is  3.2 billion CZK (around 128 million EUR) and includes the overall modernization framework. The final worth of the contract will depend on the chosen number of modernized locomotives.
