On 10 June 2025, Alstom and Norske tog have presented the first Coradia Stream for the Nordics regional train fleet that has arrived in Norway for testing. The event was held at Bane NOR’s Grorud depot, with Norwegian Minister of Transport Jon-Ivar Nygård and the French Ambassador to Norway Florence Robine among the attendees.

Coradia Stream for the Nordics has already undergone extensive testing in Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic, and will now be tested in Norway. This winter, the train will undergo tests in the mountains – to ensure that the trains runs optimally, under extreme Norwegian conditions.

This presentation marks a milestone in the framework agreement signed between Alstom and Norske tog in January 2022. Norske tog has ordered 55 Coradias for commuter and regional operations, as part of a frame agreement to purchase a total of 200 new units. They will replace the outdated trains in Eastern Norway. This is the largest train procurement agreement in Norwegian history. The initially envisaged Class 77 designation was changed to Class N05 for commuter version (36 units) and Class N06 for regional version (19 units).

The new regional train Coradia Stream EMU, formerly known as Coradia Nordic, is specially adapted for Norwegian terrain and climate. The six-car trains have a top speed of 160 km/h for commuter service and up to 200 km/h for the Intercity routes and are designed with a lifespan of 40 years. They feature low-floor entryways for better accessibility and are built on a modular platform that allows operators to customise interiors and features according to operational needs.

We asked Norske tog: when do you expect to start passenger service a and how many trains were built so far? Hans Arne Dingtorp, Project Manager, answered us: "The first new commuter train is scheduled to enter service in Norway starting from June 2026. Norske tog has entered into an agreement with Alstom to purchase 36 new commuter trains and 19 new regional trains. Currently, unit number 13 is in production, and five units are already undergoing testing."
