More TRAXXes For GTS Rail

On 21 January 2021, Bombardier Transportation and Italian intermodal freight operator GTS Rail signed a contract for three more Class E.494 TRAXX DC3 locomotives. This order will increase the operator’s TRAXX fleet to 20 units, of which eight are the latest generation. The new locomotives will be built at Bombardier’s Vado Ligure works and their deliveries will start from September 2021.

The newcomers will be designated 494 256 to 258, and will follow the numbering of the previous batch. The GTS Rail fleet includes at present the TRAXXes 483 025 + 026, 483 051 to 060, and 494 251 to 255.

Alessio Muciaccia, GTS Rail CEO, said: „This contract represents further confirmation of the appreciation and trust between Bombardier and GTS Rail for more than 13 years. The years to come will see exponential growth in rail transport and we are pleased to seize this opportunity. Our goal is to double the fleet size over the next five years.“
