Siemens receives first major order for Vectron X: 100 locomotives for RAILPOOL

On 23 September, RAILPOOL and Siemens Mobility have signed an order for the delivery of 100 Vectron X locomotives at InnoTrans 2026. This marks the first major order for this new locomotive generation. The order includes a firm call-off of 30 Vectron X and 50 Vectron X Dual Mode locomotives, with an option for a further 20 one. With the Dual Mode locomotives, RAILPOOL is expanding its Vectron fleet for the first time to include vehicles for combined use on electrified and non-electrified lines.
At the same time, RAILPOOL will be the first customer for selected digital functions of the Vectron X. These include the "Core" digital basic package and the bundle for standardized APIs, which allow for the connection of additional applications and services. In the coming months, Siemens Mobility and RAILPOOL will work together to integrate these functions into RAILPOOL's existing systems and operating processes.
This brings RAILPOOL's total Vectron fleet to 325 locomotives. The first vehicles are scheduled for delivery in 2027. Since 2010, the company has already taken 209 Vectrons into operation.
Torsten Lehnert, CEO of RAILPOOL, said: “Having been the launch customer for the Vectron locomotive in 2010, it is particularly special for us to now also become the first customer for the new Vectron X generation. We are delighted that, in addition to the Vectron X AC locomotives ordered, we are also including Vectron X Dual Mode locomotives in our range for the first time, opening a new chapter in the rail vehicle leasing industry."
The Vectron X Dual Mode has a maximum speed 160 km/h, a service weight of 90 tons, and is designed for the 15 kV 16.7 Hz supply. It delivers a power output at wheel of max. 2,400 kW in electric mode and max. 2,000 kW in diesel mode. The diesel tank has a capacity of 2,600 liters. A version of the locomotive that supports both 15 kV and 25 kV AC systems is also available.
