TRAXX3 MS locomotives approved with SW version VR01.5

As can be seen from the records in the ERA TV database, on 2 July 2025, the ERA issued a type approval for the TRAXX3 MS with software version VR01.5, which is a major step for its operational deployment and interoperability.

With this software version, the full use of the ETCS OBU Type EbiCab 2000 is now possible, which should finally open the door to normal operation in Austria, where operation on ETCS-equipped lines is only permitted using ETCS. The approval was issued for several variants of the corridor versions D/A/PL/CZ/SK/H(/HR/SLO/optionally SRB) and D/(A)/L/PL.

The latest 13 TRAXXes for RJ Pool (1388 219 - 231) have already been delivered with this software version, of which the first six are operated on the Czech network since November 2024 based on the test operation permit issued by the Czech DÚ, and the remaining seven were waiting for international approval. These are now also gradually being put into operation, including outside the Czech Republic, although for now only in Slovakia.

The previous Class 388 ČD Cargo and RJ locomotives are still equipped with SW version VR01.2, allowing international deployment without the use of ETCS OBU, so they will now be upgraded to VR01.5.
