This part of our website has been prepared to extend our Railvolution news service. Its objective is to offer you snippets of the latest, most interesting news, accompanied by photos. On one hand this will let you to have a sneak preview of what the forthcoming number of Railvolution will contain. On the other, it will enable our editorial staff to provide you with information that is at their fingertips – and why waste exciting pieces of news while waiting until we have the printed version of the magazine ready for distribution? What is more, on the website pages we are in a position to publish photos for which there will be insufficient space in the printed magazine!

Please bear in mind that it is not our intention to 'digitalise' Railvolution! The printed magazine will still continue, with its full range of articles and news items. But we hope that you enjoy this new offering, and that it will stimulate your interest in our unique publication.

On 5 July 2017 the complete six-car Škoda-built NIM Express made its very first appearance on the Nürnberg - Ingolstadt - München (NIM) high speed line. This photo taken near Enkering that day shows it being powered by 102 001.

On 21 January 2017 NIM Express’s shortened rake of four cars arrived at the VUZ Velim test circuit, and almost immediately started making a series of test runs. This photo shows the stock, pushed by 102 001 and 002, on the large circuit.

On 20 January 2017 the first, shortened rake of NIM Express carriages left the Škoda Transportation Plzeň factory bound for VUZ Velim test centre. The photos, the first taken on the AWT siding and the second at the freight yard adjacent to Plzeň hl. n., show this rake, formed of four double deck carriages, 70 80 86-94 002-8, 70 80 26-94 002-1, 70 80 26-94 001-3 and 70 80 26-94 026-0, en route to Velim, where a series of tests using DB Regio’s future Class 102 electrics will take place.

On 24 September 2016 the NIM Express DABpbzf driving trailer 001 was despatched from Plzeň bound for Rail Tech Arsenal, Wien, where it is shown in the first photo, taken on the 27th. It was then prepared for tests. The second photo, taken on 7 October, shows it fitted with measuring devices in the large climatic chamber during the calibration of the heating lamps used there. Also on the RTA premises is the NIM Express end car DBpz 001.

On 12 September 2016 the first carriages, one inner end car and one intermediate car, for DB Regio’s NIM Express push-pull rakes left Škoda Vagonka’s Ostrava works bound for the manufacturer’s Plzeň works. This photo of the two carriages was taken en route the following day, in Beroun, southwest of Praha. Haulage was provided by VÍTKOVICE Doprava, using its diesel, 740.631.

On 14 September Škoda dispatched 102 003 locomotive from Plzeň to Berlin for exhibition at InnoTrans. The second photo shows it being hauled by ČD Cargo’s 363.014, crossing the bridge over the Úslava on the outskirts of Plzeň. It was originally planned to exhibit also an intermediate car, an end car and a driving trailer at InnoTrans, but in the end this was not possible "on account of assembly and the test schedule", as Škoda explained. On 15 September a second inner end car left Ostrava works bound for the RTA Rail Tec Arsenal climatic testing chambers in Wien.

Three of the electrics which Škoda Transportation is building for NIM Express are now in the VUZ’s test centre in Velim. This photo, taken on 25 July 2016 at the large circuit, shows a line-up formed of 102 004 (nearest the camera), then 102 001 and 002.

On 27 June 2016 at the VUZ test centre Velim, Škoda Transportation officially presented DB Regio's future Emil Zátopek electric locomotive, destined for NIM Express push-pull services. There are now two Class 102s at Velim, and for the presentation 102 002 was used, this machine having been covered in vinyls previously to hide its livery. The vinyls were removed on the 26th. The first photo shows 102 002 making one of the presentation runs for the media invited to the event, speeds of 200 km/h being reached on the large test circuit.

Once the event was over 102 002 was moved to a storage track while 102 001 ventured onto the large test circuit, to continue a series of braking tests. The second photo shows this machine passing 102 001, at a speed of 200 km/h (in the background ICE4 9003 is visible). The third and fourth photos also show 102 001 during the braking tests: in the row of DB locomotives in the background TRAXX 187 104 is closest to the camera, the non-electrified track on the right is a branch line to the Velim station.

On 28 April 2016 DB Regio’s future 102 001 left its Plzeň birthplace bound for the VUZ test centre Velim. This photo was taken at Plzeň hl. n., where it was waiting to continue its journey to Praha. Note that both front ends have protective coverings.

On 18 February 2016 locomotive 102 001 destined for a DB Regio’s NIM Express push-pull rake became the first of the batch which has started making test runs on the Škoda Transportation’s test track at Plzeň.

On 12/13 February 2016, the bodyshell of the first Class DABpbzf 770.0 driving trailer of the push-pull trains ordered by DB Regio for its NIM Express services was moved from the Škoda Vagonka factory in Ostrava to the Škoda Transportation works in Plzeň for fitting out to be completed. These photos show the driving trailer at Praha-Libeň coupled within the Pn 63710 freight from Česká Třebová to Plzeň.
