This part of our website has been prepared to extend our Railvolution news service. Its objective is to offer you snippets of the latest, most interesting news, accompanied by photos. On one hand this will let you to have a sneak preview of what the forthcoming number of Railvolution will contain. On the other, it will enable our editorial staff to provide you with information that is at their fingertips – and why waste exciting pieces of news while waiting until we have the printed version of the magazine ready for distribution? What is more, on the website pages we are in a position to publish photos for which there will be insufficient space in the printed magazine!

Please bear in mind that it is not our intention to 'digitalise' Railvolution! The printed magazine will still continue, with its full range of articles and news items. But we hope that you enjoy this new offering, and that it will stimulate your interest in our unique publication.

Oberpfalzbahn LINTs Enter Service

On 2 March 2016 the first of the LINT DMUs acquired by Oberpfalzbahn instead of the batch of LINK DMUs was presented at Schwandorf depot (see photos). On 9 March the first train entered regular service between Marktredwitz and Regensburg. It is planned that during April all 12 trains on order, numbered 1648 201 to 212, will be in service.

  • WKD New EMUs

In August 2014 Warszawska Kolej Dojazdowa (WKD), which operates the suburban line to the southwest of the capital, awarded Newag a contract for six six-section EMUs, designated Type 39WE. The first, 39WE-001, was completed in February 2016 and sent to the OETD IK's test circuit near Żmigród. This photo was taken there on 29 February, showing the train alongside DB's future LINK DMU 633 001.

  • NEB LINKs On Test

In September 2013 Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn ordered from PESA seven two-car and two three-car 140 km/h LINK DMUs. At present authorisation testing is taking place in Poland. The photo shows 632-021 at the Źmigród test circuit on 20 October 2015.

On 25 February 2015 Länderbahn announced that it had placed an order with Alstom for Lint 41 DMUs, to replace the batch of LINK DMUs which it had ordered for its Oberpfalzbahn services, and which have still not been granted authorisation. The Lint 41s are scheduled to be delivered in spring 2016. No further information has been released regarding the number of new Lint DMUs or to the contract with PESA. This photo, taken on 15 October 2014, shows 632 004 at Schwandorf depot during a presentation event. This was to be the maintenance base for the LINK fleet. On the right is RegioShuttle diesel railcar VT 33.

In the evening of 9 December 2014 DB's very first three-car LINK DMU, 633 001, left Bydgoszcz to be moved to Rail Tec Arsenal in Wien. The photos show the train en route traversing the Czech Republic where it was routed via the border stations at Lichkov and Břeclav. The first photo was taken at Ústí nad Orlicí station and the second nearing Opatov, on the Česká Třebová to Brno line, with haulage provided by ČD Cargo's 363.051. In the morning of 12 December the train was handed over to ÖBB at Břeclav.


PESA’s Źmigród Line-Up

With PESA busy building numerous multiple units for domestic operators and for export, it was only a matter of time before several different types of train met at the Źmigród test circuit. In this line-up, from right to left, on 23 July 2014, are Oberpfalzbahn LINK DMU 600-004 (with 600-003 and 002 behind it), Trenitalia’s ATR 220 Tr-001 Atribo DMU (first of a batch of 40 on order) and Województwo Podkarpackie’s EN62-002 Acatus Plus EMU (the province has ordered two three-car trains), the Acatus family being destined essentially for the Polish market.

Last RegioShark Delivered

A year and a half after beginning in September 2012, deliveries of ČD’s LINK DMUs are now drawing to a close. Here we see the last train in the batch, 844.031, on 16 January 2014 at Česká Třebová, where RegioSharks arriving in the Czech Republic are commissioned. Also visible is driving trailer 80-30 014.

Two of these DMUs (see the report on an earlier page, dated 28 June 2013) have recently been moved to other establishments, outside Poland, as their testing procedures progress. On 28 August 600-003 was moved to Velim, and is shown here approaching Choceň, in the Czech Republic, being hauled by ČD Cargo's 130.017. On 31 August/1 September 600-002 was moved to the RTA Rail Tec Arsenal climatic chamber in Wien.

After testing of the first Oberpfalzbahn’s LINK DMU in Germany in April and May 2013, 600-001 returned to Poland and since late May has been at Źmigród, where it is now in the company of two more LINKs which were outshopped by PESA in the spring. Testing continues, part of this involving all three trains running in multiple, as show the photos taken on 28 June 2013.

On 5 February 2013 LINK DMU 600-001, the first for Oberpfalzbahn, arrived at the OETD IK’s Źmigród test circuit. Here we see it on the 6th, waiting to make its first test runs.
