CAF's signalling division has completed an ambitious technological innovation project focused on the implementation of Automatic Train Operation (ATO) up to GoA4 level (fully autonomous) in the Netherlands.

From 15 December 2024 an enhanced Brussel - Rotterdam service will be introduced, which will be operated jointly by NS and SNCB and called EuroCity.

The first vehicle to arrive for testing in 2024 at VUZ Velim was a Coradia Stream for Romania on 5 January.

In Belgium, Alpha Trains is getting back the TRAXXes that are freeing up on the routes where the new ICNG EMUs are starting to take over the service (in Holland).

On 19 November 2023, an official farewell run was held with the Class 1700 locomotive

On Wednesday 19 April 2023, NS started a test service with passengers with the first ICNG (Intercity Nieuwe Generatie) units on the Amsterdam - Rotterdam route.

On 9 May 2023 CAF has completed the delivery of the Sprinter New Generation (SNG) EMUs to NS.

On 12 December 2022, NS signed a contract with CAF for delivery of a new fleet of „dubbeldekkers“ for intercity services.

On 15 September 2022, Siemens Mobility announced that it has been awarded a contract by NS to retrofit 176 ViRM EMUs with the on-board ETCS Level 2. 

NS is running a tender for a new generation of double-deck EMUs and has selected CAF as a preferred bidder for an initial order of 60 trainsets.

Over the weekend of 2 and 3 July 2022, Alstom and NS presented the Intercity Next Generation (ICNG) train to the Dutch public at Rotterdam central station.

NS is to modernise the last delivered batch of VIRM double-deck EMUs, the Class VIRM 4.

After 46 years of operations, the Class SGM Sprinter EMUs have been withdrawn from commercial operations at NS on 11 December 2021.

Since 6 December 2021, NS started to gradually reintroduce its Class DDZ double deck sets in regular service.
