As part of the February 2024 agreement, KiwiRail ordered 24 Bo‘Bo‘ hybrid battery-diesel narrow-gauge shunters.
In October 2021, New Zealand's national operator KiwiRail signed a framework contract with Stadler for the supply of SALi diesel locomotives and ordered 57 ones, primarily for operation on the South Island.
On 27 February 2024, Stadler and KiwiRail signed two locomotive contracts. The first one involves the delivery of nine SALi mainline locomotives, the second one includes the supply of 24 hybrid battery-diesel shunters.
On 11 October 2021, KiwiRail and Stadler announced they signed a frame contract and a first call-off for the 57 diesel locomotives.
